Description
Chicago Gaelic Park Presents Hooley in the Park
A Weekend of Dance and Music – March 22-24, 2024
Chicago Gaelic Park has a three-day weekend of Irish social dance and music on tap to keep the March fun going after its 2024 Ireland on Parade and St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations. The weekend features, direct from Ireland, dance master Gerard Butler and musicians Stuart Moyles and Jack Keogh. The Hooley in the Park promises to be a great weekend of music, dance, and fun in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere!
Butler, a County Roscommon native who makes his home in County Tyrone, is a nine-time All-Ireland Dance Champion, and his dance classes in Ireland are hugely popular. On his last visit to Gaelic Park, Butler had dancers of all skill levels improving their footwork and moves while thoroughly enjoying themselves. Butler’s musical accompaniments, Mayoman Stuart Moyles and Wicklow man Jack Keogh, are highly regarded on the Irish social dancing scene. Singer/guitarist Moyles won the Hot Country TV “Best Social Dancing Artist Award,” and 19-year-old Keogh is making a real name for himself in Irish music circles as a singer/songwriter.
During Hooley in the Park Butler will hold country jive dance workshops on Friday at 7 pm, Saturday at 2 pm, and Sunday at 12 pm. Butler will also hold a special youth country jive workshop on Saturday morning. Each evening of the Hooley weekend will feature the music of Moyles and Keogh, and the Saturday night dance promises to be extra-fun with local favorites, Joe McShane and Myles McVeigh and the Hoyle Brothers joining the line-up. McVeigh hails from Donegal, and the band plays a mix of Irish and country-western favorites.
Attendees will want to check out Gaelic Park’s Carraig Pub for food and beverage purchases. For more information about “Hooley in the Park,” contact Chicago Gaelic Park at 708.687.9323.
