The Seafarer, by Conor McPherson, is a darkly comic, supernatural drama set in a run-down house in Baldoyle, Co. Dublin, on Christmas Eve. The play follows Sharky Harkin, a recovering alcoholic who has returned home to care for his blind, sharp-tongued older brother, Richard. As old friends gather for an evening of drinking and poker, one guest—a mysterious stranger named Mr. Lockhart—reveals a disturbing connection to Sharky’s past. What begins as a familiar Christmas gathering gradually becomes a tense, supernatural confrontation in which the poker game carries far higher stakes than anyone realizes.
